PORTLAND- The Maine Mammoths (1-6) travel to Columbus, Georgia to take on the Columbus Lions (4-2) for the first time this season. The Mammoths are currently battling for a playoff spot, while the Lions are fighting to stay in the playoffs at the fourth place position. The Mammoths are three wins behind the Lions, so a win this week is necessary to make an attempt at getting to the playoffs.
The Mammoths were looking to get redemption against the Pirates last week, but failed to do so. During the game, the Mammoths were struggling to stick with the Pirates. The third quarter was full of turnovers that left the Mammoths helpless and making a comeback tougher to do. Fortunately for Maine, the Mammoths outscored the Pirates in the fourth quarter, but it still wasn’t enough to defeat the Pirates. The Mammoths fell to the Pirates 37-52.
For the defense, the Mammoths look to improve every week and they can get a chance to do that against Lions Quarterback Mason Espinosa, who threw one interception against the Jacksonville Sharks last week. The Lions offense is great at running the ball and catching the defense by surprise, which can be tricky for the Mammoths. So far this season, the Mammoths have forced seven interceptions and recovered five fumbles, bringing the total number of turnovers to 12, which is just over one per game.
Saturday's game will be shown on YouTube Live and will be posted on the team’s social media pages. That will provide all the information on how to watch the game live on your phone or your computer.
The Mammoths host the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks (0-7) on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 7:00 pm (ET) for Teacher/Superhero Appreciation Night.
